SHEBANG Issue 6 as part of Amsterdam 750

In April 2025, SHEBANG will present Issue 6. The sixth SHEBANG program block ties in with Program Line Amsterdam 750: 'The story of the city'.

The history of slavery and the impact of the colonial inheritance on today's society are now important current themes that are discussed everywhere in the city (and the country). Zuidoost, its residents and institutions, have been pioneers in putting these topics on the agenda. Despite this growing attention, many issues that are linked to colonial heritage remain unmentioned. Systemic consequences of this past demand attention; of everyday racism, inequality of opportunity in the labor market, ethnic profiling within algorithms or by the police. The impact of the slavery past on the everyday reality of our city is the subject that is explored in depth in Issue 5. The guest curator for this block has not yet been announced.
