Issue 5: nulgraad by charl landvreugd - presentation 01
The first presentation of the public program of Issue 5 by guest curator charl landvreugd.
The preparation of Issue 5: nulgraad by guest curator charl landvreugd, is in full swing. The fifth SHEBANG Issue ties in with Program Line Amsterdam 750: ‘A new map’. What does the future of the city of Amsterdam look like and how do we shape it together? Artists and researchers in particular have the ability to make non-existent realities insightful and tangible. The movement of Afro-futurism is a good example. Moreover, alternative future realities offer a much-needed perspective in a world where ecological and political developments paint bleak future scenarios. For this fifth program block, artist and researcher charl landvreugd will create alternative future stories together with makers, cooks, performers, artists, and healers, amongst others, in interaction with the SHEBANG audience. The public program of SHEBANG's Issue 5 consists of three presentations on February 21, March 7 and 21 2025, which will take place at our temporary location on Hettenheuvelweg in Bijlmer West.
SHEBANG Issue 5: nulgraad
During nulgraad Amsterdam, an installation with various elements will be created. Just like with the build-up of his solo exhibition Ososma, landvreugd will create a three-dimensional ‘Tembe’ structure, this time with the help of Yazan Maksoud (the Builder) and inspired on the map of Amsterdam. In this basis, each component is a ‘pavilion’, in this case based on the nine districts of the city. landvreugd invites various artists and collectives to shape the content of these pavilions. Surrounded by video images from the everyday life, there are three moments at which they present their work in the growing Tembe installation. The combination of all these works together sketches a future vision of Amsterdam that has emerged from the new space that is today, the zero degree.
The first presentation on February 21st will revolve around defining nulgraad Aarde by means of: mapping the environment, physical maintenance through food, aesthetic coolness and personal spiritual development. With: AiRich (the Map Maker), Denzel Veerkamp (the Designer) and Simone Zeefuik (the Poet).
