Ballroom Night by House of Bodega

On July 20, CBK Zuidoost is organising a ballroom event at SHEBANG in collaboration with The House of Bodega.

The House of Bodega has created new work especially for this project: artistic, expressive outfits, each with a personal story. The nine members of will present the garments in a grand manner. There are no fewer than three ballroom categories covered, each linked to a theme that is important to The House of Bodega.

1. Runway (with an emphasis on the walk, the outfit and the attitude) – theme: Sexual Health
2. Old Way (classic, static performance 'posing') – theme: Queer BIPOC History
3. Vogue Femme (expressive, explosive, extravagant, contemporary) – theme: Queer Expression

The performances are accompanied vocally and musically by an MC and DJ.

The central stage gets a small makeover after each performance. Elsewhere in the room, the public can view photos and video fragments or the complete 'making of' video in a separate room (which is played in a loop). And, the members of House of Bodega are walking around. There are also photos and a video recording of the “making off” made by Naomi Rijkaard.

With this project, CBK Zuidoost wants to consciously support the queer community in Amsterdam (Southeast), provide a platform and promote issues such as inclusivity, diversity, entrepreneurship & empowerment of the Amsterdam ballroom scene.
